Gimp 2.8 - Change White Background of an Image to Transparent. Learn how to remove white background of an image to make it transparent in Gimp 2.8 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. The steps are the same for windows also.
1. Import the image to Gimp
2. Go to Colors menu and select "Color to Alpha"
3. Click OK
Now you have a transparent layer. If you want to use it within Gimp you can add the layer on top of other layers. If you want to export it the steps are:
1. Go to File menu and select Export As
2. Type the file name with .png extension.
3. Click Export
4. Click Export again.
